How long does it take to get an Electrical Certificate of Compliance?
If no repairs are needed, the certificate can be issued on the same day after inspection and testing has been done. If repairs are needed, the certificate will be issued after the repair work has been completed.
How long is an Electrical Certificate of Compliance valid for?
The certificate does not have a default expiration date and is valid for the lifetime of the electrical installation unless any additions or alterations have been made to the electrical installation, or for the purpose of transfer the certificate cannot be older than 2 years.
Who can issue an Electrical Certificate of Compliance and Electric Fence Compliance Certificate?
Only a registered person with the South African Department of Employment and Labour can issue the certificates. A registered person is someone who is either a master electrician, or an installation electrician or an electrical tester for single phase for electrical certificates of compliance, and an Electric Fence System Installer (EFSI) for electric fence certificates (EFC).
What is a Master Electrician?
Master Electricians are the only qualified and registered person(s) who can verify and certify the construction, testing and inspection of any electrical installation.
