et in touch to arrange a convenient time for the inspection. I cover the West Rand and northern suburbs of Johannesburg, Monday to Friday.

02

I carry out a full physical inspection and testing of your electric fence installation. This typically takes up to two hours, depending on the size of the property and the length of the fence.

03

If your installation passes, I issue the certificate on the same day once the inspection fee has been paid.

If any faults are found, I will provide you with a detailed quote for the repair work. The certificate is issued once all repairs have been completed. Please note: the inspection fee is payable regardless of the outcome, and applies even if you choose a different contractor for the repair work.

Your original electric fence certificate of compliance is issued to you. For property transfers, your transfer attorney will request the original.

What is an electric fence certificate of compliance?

An official document confirming that a residential electric fence installation meets the requirements of SANS 10222-3:2012 and the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993. It is required for property transfers and is a legal obligation for landlords renting out a property with an electric fence.

Who can issue an electric fence certificate?

Only a person registered with the Department of Employment and Labour as an Electric Fence System Installer (EFSI) can legally issue an electric fence certificate. A general electrician or electrical contractor who is not registered as an EFSI cannot issue one.

How long is an electric fence certificate valid?

An electric fence certificate is valid for the lifetime of the installation, provided no changes are made. If the energiser is replaced or significant alterations are made to the installation, a new certificate is required.

Do I need a separate certificate for my electric fence if I already have an electrical COC?

Yes. An electric fence certificate is a separate document from the electrical COC and must be issued independently. Both are required when selling a property that has an electric fence. Read more about the difference between an electrical COC and an electric fence COC.

Who is responsible for the electric fence certificate in a sectional title property?

In a sectional title property, the electric fence typically falls under the body corporate’s responsibility. The body corporate is responsible for ensuring the electric fence covering common property is certified. If you are unsure, confirm with your body corporate or managing agent before booking an inspection.

How long does the inspection take?

Up to two hours depending on the size of the property and the length of the fence. If no repairs are needed, the certificate is issued the same day once the inspection fee has been paid.
